A Mask Workshop

  • August 5-9| 1PM-4PM
  • Ages 14-18
  • $250
  • Minimum 5 Enrollments

One of the oldest tools in theater, the mask is a quick and easy way to learn how to act.  From the moment a person places a mask on his/her face, an exciting transformation takes place.  Freedom ensues, impulses come alive, and inhibitions are lost.  Suddenly actors instinctively know what to do with their bodies, self-conscience mannerisms are lost, and they come alive in truthful and believable ways.  This is the power of masks!  A Mask Workshop will take young actors on a journey where they will discover new ways to utilize their instrument (their body).  Actors will choose a mask, develop a character with it, and present that same character at the end of the week.  Each actor will learn how to make specific choices, and develop them into characterizations for upcoming roles.  They will learn how to free their imaginations to better serve their future work.  Most importantly a confidence will be gained in their creative process that will serve them in anything they choose to do!

Masks, costumes, and general props will be provided.  Actors need to wear a solid dark-colored pant and t-shirt, preferably black (please no large logos).  Leggings and yoga pants are encouraged.  Actors will also need to bring something to journal in and a writing utensil.  Long hair must be tied back, and absolutely no jewelry.
